In the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) final scheduled for Sunday, the Super Eagles will battle against the tournament's host, the Elephants of Cote d'Ivoire.

It is the first time the Nigerian senior national team will be in the final since it won the continental trophy in 2013.
Yesterday, after the game finished with a goal apiece in regulation and extra time, the Super Eagles defeated the Bafana Bafana of South Africa 4-2 on penalties.

Nigeria had taken the lead in the thrilling match when Captain William Troost-Ekong netted a penalty in the 67th minute following a foul on Victor Osimhen in the Bafana Bafana 18-yard area.
Nigeria subsequently conceded by a penalty scored by Mokoena Teboho in the 90th minute after Alhasan Yusuf tripped a Bafana Bafana player, Percy Tau.

After a 1-1 draw, goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali saved two penalties in the shootout to lead Nigeria to a 4-2 triumph against South Africa and guarantee a spot in yesterday's Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) final in Cote d'Ivoire.

Substitute Kelechi Iheanacho scored the decisive penalty to seal a 4-2 shootout win as Nigeria survived VAR drama to reach their first AFCON’s final after 2013 when they last won the competition in South Africa.
