On September 10, 2024, Huawei Technologies unveiled its latest innovation, the Mate XT, which it claims to be the world's first trifold smartphone.

This launch occurred just hours after Apple introduced its new iPhone 16, designed to enhance AI capabilities. Huawei's announcement was made by executive Richard Yu during a keynote presentation at the company's headquarters in Shenzhen.

The Mate XT has generated significant interest, with over three million pre-orders recorded prior to its official release. The device features a striking red and gold design and is set to hit the market on September 20, with prices starting at 19,999 yuan (approximately $2,800).

Yu emphasized Huawei's commitment to leadership in the foldable phone sector, stating, "We have put in a huge amount of effort into solving the problems regarding mass production and product reliability."

Huawei's timing is notable, as it follows Apple's launch of the iPhone 16, which aims to leverage generative artificial intelligence to enhance user experience and drive sales.

Despite facing challenges from U.S. sanctions that have impacted its access to technology, Huawei has managed to reclaim a significant share of the smartphone market in China, previously dominated by Apple.

Recent reports indicate that Huawei is now the largest seller of foldable phones in China, commanding over half of the domestic market share in the first half of 2024.
