Nigerian Communications Satellite Ltd. has made public a collaboration with INFRATEL Africa, a leading telecom infrastructure service provider, to enhance rural connectivity and bridge the digital divide in the country.

NigComSat revealed this in a press release signed by Aisha Bantam, its Assistant General Manager of Corporate Affairs, on Thursday, June 20, 2024.

According to the agreement to improve internet access in rural areas, NigComSat will be providing internet connection to a project by INFRATEL Africa. This will involve moving 100 locations to NigComSat's satellite network.

“This partnership aims to improve telecom services and increase networks in impoverished communities, the statement said.

Mrs. Jane Egerton-Idehen, Managing Director of NigComSat, expressed happiness about the collaboration, stating, “This partnership is a welcome development for NigComSat, and we are dedicated to rendering quality services to INFRATEL AFRICA and their customers.

Egerton-Idehen underscores the company’s infrastructure development to meet global standards and promises INFRATEL AFRICA its competence and strength in delivering services.

INFRATEL AFRICA’s work is to close the gap in internet access by bringing online the unserved and underserved communities to the global digital landscape, promoting inclusivity and digital equality.

This partnership aligns with NigComSat's long-term goals, allowing them to leverage their satellite resources to empower businesses and enhance overall connectivity.

The collaboration is expected to have a significant impact on Nigeria’s digital economy, supporting the government’s efforts to bridge the digital divide and improve connectivity in rural areas.
