The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has issued a warning to Nigerians regarding the illegal sale of Foula condoms, an unregistered brand recently discovered in markets across Abakaliki, Ebonyi State, and Zango, Katsina State.

NAFDAC's Post-Marketing Surveillance Directorate confirmed that these condoms, packaged in sets of three, are not registered for use in Nigeria and feature labelling that is not in English.

This raises significant concerns about their safety and effectiveness in preventing unintended pregnancies and protecting against HIV and other sexually transmitted infections.

The agency emphasized that the use of unregistered condoms poses serious risks, as they may compromise safety and quality. "If condoms leak or break, they cannot provide adequate protection," NAFDAC cautioned, highlighting the potential negative impact on public health initiatives aimed at promoting safe sex practices.

In response to this issue, NAFDAC has directed its zonal directors and state coordinators to enhance surveillance efforts and remove these unregistered products from circulation.

The agency urges importers, distributors, retailers, healthcare professionals, and consumers to remain vigilant by sourcing medical products only from authorized suppliers. Consumers are encouraged to report any suspected substandard products to NAFDAC through its helpline or email.

Furthermore, NAFDAC has called on healthcare professionals and the public to report any adverse effects related to medical products via their official channels or through the E-reporting platform available on the NAFDAC website. Press Tab to write more...
