The government of Anambra State, through the task force team of Operation Clean and Healthy Anambra, has invaded a suspected fake drug production factory and also apprehended six persons operating at the facility.

The factory, situated in Umuoji, Idemili North Local Government Area of the state, was shut down during the raid, and the owner of the factory, identified as Chinwe Chukwurah, was apprehended.

Chukwurah was arrested for producing, packaging, distributing, and selling a range of low-quality and fake paracetamol and Flagyl products.

The Managing Director of OCHA Brigade, Celestine Anere, told reporters on Thursday that the agency, while carrying out its daily tasks, found a fake drug factory and, upon investigation, found out that the company had been operating for years and selling counterfeit drugs throughout the state.

Anere said the factory, which was located in a filthy environment unacceptable for the production of drugs, has been shut down until further notice as investigations continue, while the Ministry of Health and the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control look into the seized drugs and the factory's license.

During the raid, six people were apprehended and have been handed over to the police for further questioning and prosecution.
