The All Progressives Congress (APC) has called on parents to watch their children's movements to prevent their recruitment for violence ahead of a planned nationwide protest.

This warning follows the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun’s, Tuesday threat that security operatives would make arrests if the protest, scheduled from August 1 to 10, turns violent.

The protest has stirred tension and mixed reactions among Nigerians, with several groups citing the soaring cost of living and economic hardship as reasons for their participation.

After the APC's 153rd National Working Committee meeting, National Secretary Senator Ajibola Basiru urged those planning protests to trust that the Federal Government is addressing the nation’s economic challenges. He emphasized the importance of monitoring children's movements to ensure they stay out of trouble.

Basiru noted that the government, since taking office in 2023, has faced significant economic challenges and is gradually implementing programs to provide relief to citizens. He highlighted that some issues raised by protesters are political or constitutional and are being addressed by ongoing amendments in the National Assembly.

The APC also announced an emergency meeting with all state and Federal Capital Territory APC Chairmen for further discussions.
