Delta Police Apprehend 40 Suspected Drug Dealers

According to reports, the arrest took place in Asaba, the state capital.

The Nigerian Police, Delta State Command, has apprehended 40 drug dealers at the Famous Swees Spirit Hotel junction in Asaba, the state capital.

It was gathered that the police, in partnership with other security forces, carried out an operation along the Asaba/Okpanam Road, near the midwifery market, on Tuesday night.

It was learnt that the operation was launched following credible intelligence concerning a criminal hideout where illicit drug activities were prevalent, causing significant distress and danger to society.

“During the activity, which was performed with precision and diligence, 40 individuals were apprehended for their participation in the illegal drug trade.

The defendant, in a desperate effort to avoid apprehension, resorted to escaping into the storm drainage along the Okpanam Road; the quick and coordinated efforts of the police ensured their arrest,” a security source informed newsmen.

The source affirmed the operation would function as a clear message to all that the security equipment was dedicated to eliminating the menace of hard drug selling and other criminal activities in the state.

He noted the search would be a strong hindrance to those who believe that engaging in such unlawful activities was business as usual, stating that the government would go on to take conclusive actions to ensure the safety and well-being of the Delta State indigen.

The Police Public Relations Officer of the Delta State Command, SP Bright Edafe, confirmed the apprehension when contacted on Wednesday.

He noted that they conducted a raid in the area the previous night and arrested 40 suspects. He mentioned that while an official statement was still pending, they are planning to issue a press release.
