Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State has announced that his administration will impose sanctions on schools and businesses that comply with the two-day sit-at-home order issued by the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPoB).
This declaration was made during a joint press conference with security chiefs following a tour of various institutions in Enugu.
Chidiebere Onyia, the Secretary to the State Government, emphasized that teachers and educational institutions that failed to operate on the designated days would face consequences.
"We insist on zero compliance to an illegal directive," he stated, highlighting the government's commitment to maintaining normalcy in the region's economic activities.
The sit-at-home order, which affected parts of the South-East, was declared by IPoB's factional leader, Simeon Ekpa. The Coalition of South-East Youth Leaders (COSEYL) has voiced its concerns regarding the ongoing disruptions caused by these orders, describing them as detrimental to the region's economy.
In a recent statement, COSEYL's President-General, Goodluck Ibem, criticized the chaos inflicted by these mandates and called for an end to what he termed "madness."
Furthermore, COSEYL urged President Bola Tinubu to consider releasing Nnamdi Kanu, the incarcerated IPoB leader, as a potential solution to halt the economic turmoil affecting the area.
