Human rights lawyer Femi Falana has denied being involved with or representing the Nigerian crossdresser Okuneye Idris Olarenwaju, widely known as Bobrisky, or having anything to do with alleged bribes paid to prison officials to serve his prison sentence outside the prison facility.

In a viral video trending online released by Martins Otse, known as VeryDarkMan, some unidentified Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) personnel allegedly received the sum of 15 million from Bobrisky to drop financial crime charges against him.

Otse also claimed that Falana requested a presidential pardon for Bobrisky in exchange for N10 million. But, in an interview on Channels Television's Politics Today yesterday, Falana stated that he had never met or spoken with Bobrisky.

He said, “Okuneye never spoke to me; I have never seen him in person; I do not know him at all. He was rumoured to have spoken to my son Folarin (Falz).”

Similarly, he said, “Yes, my son said this guy was asking people for help and contacted my son; I think on May 4, this year, and asked 'please, can you give me N3 million to be placed in an extraordinary part of the prison, we call it the VIP section?

“My son questioned him; are you calling me under the approval of the superintendent of prisons? He said no, please don’t call me again. I can't help you to bribe the prison authorities and be very cautious since you are already in prison for a crime.

“Please, if you're going to contact me again, you either go through the superintendent or you write a letter approved by the prison officials, and that was the last.

Somebody now started releasing audio recordings somewhere and went out to mock and rather slander me by falsely claiming the guy has spoken to me.

Falana described the accusations as “infantile radicalism,” stating that he had supported 280 sentenced persons both home and in diaspora to get pardon, and never on any instance has he or his law firm requested for or received a dime from anybody granted freedom.
