Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State affirmed that he is the greatest loser in the upcoming local government elections, as the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) will not be taking part in the polls in the state.

The governor made the comment while interacting with the Rivers political leaders, who assembled at the government house in Port Court yesterday in preparation for the local government poll.

He said, “Go, do what the law demands of you, as specified by the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC) Law, and leave the rest. RSIEC will handle its part, and once RSIEC finishes, the government will take it from there, and the procedures will be concluded, by the special grace of God, in a few days.”

“You know, in this poll, I am the biggest loser because my party is not taking part. It’s the fact! But following the Supreme Court verdict that elected personnel must manage local government matters, as Governor, I must obey.

“It didn’t stop there. The President, after the Supreme Court verdict, summoned us, and we reached an agreement that there would be a conformity period of 90 days. So, even though my party is not taking part, the local council process must continue to work for Rivers State.

“So many of you here are loyal party members who won’t gain from this, yet you are promoting us. So, what’s the problem?

“I want to thank you for promoting democracy. I want to commend you for preserving the rule of law. I want to appreciate you for standing by us to ensure that Rivers State remains a strong member of the community of states.

“I want to thank you for standing with us and assure you that with your strength, we will continue to fly the flag of Rivers State high.
