Governor Ahmed Ododo of Kogi State recently announced a new minimum wage of N72,500 for the lowest-paid workers in the state, a decision that has been met with enthusiasm among public employees.

This figure exceeds the N70,000 minimum wage established by the federal government in July, reflecting the governor's commitment to enhancing the welfare of state workers.

The announcement came during a meeting where Governor Ododo received a report from the Kogi State Minimum Wage Implementation Committee, led by the Head of Service, Elijah Avenemi.

Ododo emphasized his dedication to ensuring fair treatment for all workers in Kogi, stating that he views himself as a servant of the people whose resources should be equitably distributed.

In addition to the wage increase, Governor Ododo approved a one-year tax relief for all state workers. This measure eliminates any Pay-As-You-Earn (PAYE) tax or salary deductions for the next year, further supporting the financial well-being of employees.

Ododo expressed gratitude to the citizens for their trust in him as their governor and reiterated his commitment to improving their lives. He acknowledged his humble beginnings and vowed to use his position to uplift rather than oppress.

The chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) in Kogi State, Gabriel Amari, praised the governor's swift actions and described him as exceptionally supportive of workers' rights.
