Chukwubuikem Joseph Azoro, the Secretary of the Nigerian Bar Association's Idemili Branch in Anambra State, has been released by his abductors in the early hours of Monday after 15 days in captivity.

Azoro was abducted on May 11th, 2024, just two weeks after his wedding. The kidnappers were unidentified gunmen.

A source, who is a member of the state NBA and spoke to newsmen on condition of anonymity on the matter, disclosed the details of Azoro’s release on Monday.

He affirmed that the lawmaker was released after some ransom was paid to the kidnappers.

Following his abduction, the NBA members in Anambra staged a one-week boycott of all courts in the state. This peaceful protest, along with an intensive search by the state police, is believed to have contributed to Azoro's release.

It was alleged that Azoro is safe and has reunited with his family; the NBA has called off the court boycott. They have also urged authorities to take steps to prevent similar kidnappings in the future.
