The Kwara State Government has lifted its ban on shuttle buses, taxis, and ride-hailing vehicles on Ahmadu Bello Way, a key route leading to the Government House.

This decision was announced by the Commissioner for Works and Transport, Engr. Abdulquawiy Olododo, who emphasized that these vehicles are now permitted to operate on the road, which also serves important facilities such as government offices and security installations.

In a statement issued through the ministry’s Press Secretary, Olajide Abolarin, Olododo noted that this clarification aims to inform the public about the updated regulations.

However, he reiterated that tricycles, motorcycles, and heavy-duty trucks will continue to be banned from the route due to security concerns and the need to maintain public order.

Last week, the government had imposed restrictions on several vehicle categories from using Ahmadu Bello Way, instructing the Kwara State Road Traffic Management Agency to enforce these rules immediately.

The banned vehicles included tricycles (Keke Napep), commercial motorcycles (Okada), taxis, trucks, and heavy-duty vehicles, with violators facing fines of up to N50,000.

Ahmadu Bello Way, which has recently undergone rehabilitation, is vital for commercial traffic heading to areas like Tanke, Fate, and River Basin within Ilorin metropolis.

To ensure compliance with the new regulations, the Ministry of Works and Transport has begun installing signage along the corridor to notify drivers of the restrictions.
