The Lagos State Government has officially announced a traffic diversion to facilitate emergency repairs on the Eko Bridge, a decision made in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Works.

This diversion will commence on Monday, September 16, 2024, and is anticipated to last for a duration of eight weeks.

In a statement released on Friday, the State Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, outlined that the repair work will be executed in four distinct phases.

During these phases, the bridge will experience intermittent full or partial closures, contingent on the specific work schedule.

Commissioner Osiyemi provided several alternative routes for motorists to mitigate traffic congestion. Those traveling to the island from Funsho Williams Avenue can utilize the service lane at Alaka to connect to Costain and access the Eko Bridge.

In addition, motorists can reach Apongbon via Costain or navigate through Apapa Road from Costain to link to Oyingbo, facilitating access to Third Mainland Bridge.

For those heading to Surulere, the recommended route involves using Costain to connect to Breweries, then proceeding to Abebe Village and Eric Moore/Bode Thomas.

Osiyemi assured the public that officers from the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) will be deployed to both the rehabilitation sites and the alternative routes to help minimize travel delays and inconvenience.

He urged motorists to remain patient and cooperate with traffic management personnel during this period of necessary infrastructure improvement.
